Which island is better, Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloem?
The eternal question! Typically, most will say that Koh Rong is the party island and Koh Rong Samloem is the more chill destination but there are multiple different bays on each island that offer their own unique vibes, depending on what a traveller is looking for. M'Pai Bay is a village by day that can throw some exceptional parties too. We think it's the perfect balance of both!
Are things more expensive on the islands?
As with any remote destination, things are slightly more expensive on Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem. M'Pai Bay is a unique destination in Cambodia's islands as it is a fully functioning village for locals as well as a tourist destination, so prices are not too much higher than the mainland cities. In more touristy or resort locations, prices will be higher.
How do I get to Koh Rong Samloem?
The port city that you need to get to in order to reach the islands is called Sihanoukville. You can fly from Siem Reap or you can choose to take a night bus. From Phnom Penh there are bus servies on the hour to Sihanoukville or you can take the train and from Kampot, there is a train service or you can take a speed ferry from Kampot to Saracen Bay and then a taxi boat to M'Pai Bay.
